WFB&M Presents Third Annual Employment Practices Seminar to San Francisco Housing Authority
On October 23, 2007, WFB&M partners Randy Lee, Laurie Sherwood and Sage Knauft presented on effective management practices at the third annual employment practices seminar for approximately 80 supervisors and managers from the San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA). This year's presentation included an interactive discussion of the qualities and roles of effective managers, the importance of providing and documenting informal employee counseling prior to initiating progressive discipline, and formal performance reviews.
The annual employment practices seminar was co-sponsored by SFHA's insurer, the Housing Authority Risk Retention Group (HARRG), which insures thousands of Housing Authorities nationwide. Each year, WFB&M and HARRG work with senior SFHA management to develop a timely and informative curriculum for the attendees. The annual seminar, which the firm provides free of charge, has become an important preventative tool in helping to reduce employment practices claims. In fact, since the firm started giving this training to frontline management, the SFHA has not had a single employment practices claim that has resulted in a lawsuit.
