Think Pink Day
by Dana Burch (San Francisco Office)
In 1993, Evelyn Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of the Estée Lauder Companies, founded Breast Cancer Awareness Month and established the pink ribbon as its symbol. Today, BCAM is one of the most successful health awareness campaigns and the pink ribbon is easily recognized as the symbol for breast cancer awareness.

Every October this international health campaign, organized by major breast cancer charities, serves to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. The aim of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month from the start has been to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer and to offer information and support to those affected by breast cancer. The WFB&M family supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month with our annual Pink Day. On this day (October 19), WFB&M employees came to the office wearing pink clothing, purchased bracelets made by breast cancer survivors and raffled off a variety of pink goodies. Additionally, informative literature was made available to all employees.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an excellent opportunity to remind women about the benefits of early detection, and provides a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease. We at WFB&M believe that Breast Cancer is a disease that affects all of us. Each of us knows someone who has been impacted by breast cancer: a friend, a mother, a sister, a wife, or a co-worker. We hope that our efforts have contributed to increased public awareness regarding this disease and will help others to THINK PINK.
