United Video Spurs New Interest in Consumer Protection Regulations

In the aftermath of the recent viral videos showing passenger David Dao being forcibly dragged off a United Airlines flight, lawmakers are reexamining consumer protection regulations in response to public outrage.

Walsworth travel and hospitality Partner Laurie Sherwood was quoted by Law360, discussing what these policy changes might look like. “This is a situation that happens rarely, so they’re probably going to make some type of adjustments, such as giving gate agents more control or leeway and setting forth more specific standards for when can a traveler or passenger be removed once the plane is actually boarded and what are the grounds for doing that,” she said.
