Overview

Sofia Yassin is an associate at Walsworth who focuses her practice on life sciences matters and the representation of manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in product liability cases involving medical devices, pharmaceutical products, herbal and dietary supplements, and other related products. She is experienced in all aspects of pre-trial litigation, including case management, preparing dispositive motions, propounding and responding to discovery, attending depositions, assisting with trial preparation, and participating in arbitrations and mediations.

Prior to joining Walsworth, Sofia practiced law in Washington, D.C. for many years, and she worked on complex product liability and fraud actions and assisted pharmaceutical companies with internal investigations related to government compliance and publication policies.  She also has experience working for a variety of different clients on environmental, construction defect, and business tort litigation.

Representative Successes
  • United States v. International Pharmaceutical Company – Worked as part of a large team to defend an international pharmaceutical company from criminal and civil allegations of violations of the False Claims Act.
  • Homeowner v. Contractor – Successfully defeated Motion for Summary Judgment brought by contractor in a construction defect matter alleging faulty roof repairs which caused extensive water damage in the building.
  • Plaintiff v. Commercial Lending Bank – Successfully opposed plaintiff’s demurrer in one of several actions alleging fraud and breach of contract in commercial lending.
  • Worked as part of team conducting an internal investigation and evaluation of international pharmaceutical company’s marketing practices with respect to certain drugs.
Beyond the Office

Outside of the office, Sofia enjoys spending time with her seven-year-old twins, volunteering on the PTA Board at her children’s school and for the American Youth Soccer Association (AYSO), swimming, hiking, and trying new restaurants.
