Walsworth Partners Co-Chair and Present at HarrisMartin’s Emerging Toxic Tort Litigation Conference

Attorney: Dee Cohen Katz | Published 12.12.15

Walsworth Partner Dee Cohen Katz recently co-chaired HarrisMartin’s Emerging Toxic Tort Litigation Conference with the Metzger Law Group’s Raphael Metzger in Long Beach, California.

The conference brought together attorneys for plaintiffs and defendants, physicians, and scholars from around the country to discuss emerging trends in toxic tort litigation.

The presentations were varied in scope as some pit plaintiff attorneys against defense attorneys for a lively debate about emerging trends, including presentations on cosmetic talc and cell phones. Other areas included e-cigarettes, cosmetics, beryllium, and food flavorings.

Presenters included Walsworth Partner Karen M. Sullivan who, along with distinguished hematologist and oncologist Gregory P. Sarna, M.D., of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, presented on leukemia and formaldehyde-containing hair straighteners.

Karen and Dr. Sarna discussed formaldehyde exposure allegations by hair salon owners and workers, and concluded with a review of state-of-the-art science, including ways to distinguish relevant studies.
